Barbie

photo BarbieI commenced my yoga training in 1977 while studying in Sydney. It was my first formal experience of the awareness and healing power of meditation and the breath, combining asana practise with the principles of yoga.

I have continued my study of yoga by undertaking a variety of courses from teachers including Simon Borg Olivier ( Yoga Synergy),   Mark Breadner (Yoga Coach), Louise Solomon, Maria Kirsten, Peter Clifford  (Australian Academy of Yoga and Pilates). I have attended training workshops in India including programs with Seema Sondhi (Senior teacher and author), Monica Marinoni (Senior authorised teacher K Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute Mysore), Roger Newton (Dharma Mittra Yoga), Vishnu Shanker (Yoga Therapy) and Sindu V Nayar (Tulasidalam School of Yoga Pada).

I am drawn to the teachings of Krishnamacharya and T.K. V. Desikachar and it is my passion to continue my study of traditional yoga while adapting some of the physical practise to suit western lifestyles.

A highlight for 2017 was to attend a yoga program at Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation in Chennai – India, with members from our Port Lincoln School of Yoga.

I have a background in Health / Sport Science, Outdoor Education and a Masters of Education with a focus on Positive Psychology and Narrative Counselling.  I currently teach for UniSA in Port Lincoln. Yoga gently guides me to aim at being a better person, wife, mother and teacher. My belief is “Teach what is within you. Not as it applies to you, but as it applies to the one in front of you” (Krishnamacharya n.d.)

While I aim to continue my profession in Education, I am also excited and humbled to be part of the Port Lincoln School of Yoga and as teachers together, we aim to share our learnings and teachings of yoga to offer our community a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
